Two Minute Drill Video - 1968

Season Capsule

The 1968 Aviators opened the season 3-0, and a local reporter asked coach Jack Hollon for his thoughts on the hot start.  "We haven't played anybody...we haven't been pushed around , so we don't know what kind of team we've got," said Hollon.

The Aviators entered into the teeth of the schedule in Week Four with tilts against Northmont, Trotwood and West Milton.  For Butler it was a stretch that saw the Aviators lose three straight, and fall to 3-3 on the season.  At a crossroads, Butler went on to win their remaining four games to finish the campaign with a 7-3-0 record and a second place finish in what was a very competitive SWBL that year.

For Hollon, it was clear what kind of team he had.  "Our guys didn't let a rough patch dictate their season," recalled Hollon.

"They rolled with the punches and finished the remaining schedule on their terms - they never wavered and didn't fold."

The seniors received a number of post-season honors for their efforts.  Mike Larson, Andy Copp, Bill Moore and Pat Herring  were name to the All-League Team.  Bob Gearhart and Steve Johnson earned Honorable Mention accolades.

Additionally Larson was named All-Miami Valley and earned Honorable Mention as a Dayton Daily News All-Star.  Moore was named Team MVP and also received Honorable Mention nods on both newspaper All-Star Teams.
